There’s Nothing To Fear at Camlough Dental
Being nervous about seeing the dentist is probably one of the most common feelings in the world. In fact, it’s believed that up to 50% of people who never visit the dentist stay away because of their anxieties and fears, so if you have concerns you’re definitely not alone!

The Benefits of Relaxing Gas
At Camlough Dental, we take a sympathetic and understanding approach to help even the most nervous patients at ease.
However, some patients may need a mild form of sedation to help them relax before an invasive treatment. By using a combination of empathy, understanding and our ‘Gas and Air’ sedation, we can treat nearly anyone.
The Process
Fast, Relaxing And Safe
Relaxing gas, also known as “Gas and Air”, is a form of sedation (Relative Analgesia) that is a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen gases administered through a mask.
By using inhalation sedation, not only are our patients able to relax, it’s ideal for those who are severely nervous or gag easily. This treatment uses a non-allergenic and non-irritating gas that the patient inhales through a nasal hood.
‘Gas and Air’ takes effect almost immediately and wears off quickly with no after effects.
FAQs
What does ‘Relaxing Gas’ feel like?
Relaxing Gas is a very light level of sedation that is odourless and incredibly effective at relieving anxiety. You simply inhale the gas mixture through a mask and within two or three minutes you will feel a tingly sensation in your hands and feet and pleasant feelings of warmth, wellbeing and euphoria.
It’s particularly effective for patients with a strong gag reflex and those prone to claustrophobia or panic attacks.
How long will it take for the effects to wear off?
Considering the powerful calming effect Relaxing Gas has on our patients, the recovery time is remarkably short. You will also not have any ‘hangover’ effects from the sedation and, depending on what type of treatment you’ve had, you should be able to safely drive yourself home after waiting about 15 minutes for the effects to fully wear off.
Is the treatment safe?
Yes, Relaxing Gas is very safe and has been used for years at dental practices around the world. You will remain conscious through the entire procedure, though it is common for some patients not to remember the treatment and believe they were asleep, and many enjoy the sensation. Your Camlough dentist will be happy to answer any other questions you may have before your treatment.
Is it suitable for everyone?
This treatment is not suitable for pregnant women.
It may not be suitable for younger children, unless they are able to fully understand the procedure and cooperate throughout.
