Multiple Dental Implants

A Permanent Alternative to Bridges

In the past, the only real viable option to replacing multiple missing teeth was to have a denture built or a bridge put in place to fill the gap.

While both of these options are valid, having a multiple dental implant can be a better alternative. It’s long lasting, it looks, feels and acts almost exactly like your natural teeth and in the long run can actually save you money by preventing further, more invasive treatments in the future.

The Benefits of Multiple Dental Implants

Unlike the traditional teeth replacement treatments like dentures and bridges, implants are self-supporting, meaning we don’t have to use your surrounding teeth as anchors so the treatment is far less invasive.

Multiple dental implants are also more comfortable, they won’t affect your speech or the way you eat, and are incredibly durable. Best of all, they are as strong as natural teeth, they don’t have to be removed for cleaning and can improve your self-esteem by restoring your smile.

The Process of Getting Multiple Dental Implants

Getting multiple dental implants is basically the same as it is for single implants, the difference is only that it’s performed in two or more areas.

Aftercare for Your New Implant

Looking after dental implants is much easier than it is for traditional dentures and bridges. In fact, it’s about as close to having your natural teeth back as you can get! Simply brush and use interdental brushes. Although the implant itself is not subjected to decay and erosion, the area around it is, so it’s important to continue seeing your dentist and hygienist to be sure it’s free from plaque and bacteria.

FAQs

How long will my multiple implants last?

When cared for properly, there’s no reason that your new implants won’t last many, many years, if not a lifetime. Because the titanium screws permanently bond with your jaw bone, there are no adhesives or anchored supports that might deteriorate or break. However, it is still vital that you look after your oral health and attend regular maintenance appointments to make sure you get the most out of your investment.

How long will the entire multiple dental implant process take?

Normally, it takes 2-3 hours to place a titanium root in your mouth so, depending on how many implants you are getting the time will vary. After the surgery, we will allow at least 3 months to let the screws bond (integrate) fully with your jaw bone. When we are fully satisfied that they have integrated completely, we will make an impression of your mouth and create your final restoration, which will take roughly 4 weeks or so. Finally, the fitting of your restoration will take about an hour.

Will my age be a factor in getting multiple implants?

Before we can place any implant we need to be sure that your jaw bone has fully matured and is no longer growing or changing shape. For that reason they are not practical for children or young teenagers. Once we have confirmed your jaw is suitable and there are no other significant risks there is no set age limit. The team at Camlough Dental will be happy to discuss any questions you may have about any of our implant treatments.
