Restore Your Smile and Confidence
It’s not uncommon for people to have missing teeth- either through gum disease, genetics, injury or decay.
The loss of your teeth can have negative effects on your self-confidence, your bite and your ability to chew food thoroughly. Since your teeth also provide structure and support to your cheeks, tooth loss can cause your cheeks to sag and make you appear older than you are.
For these and other reasons, it is essential that your missing teeth are replaced as soon as possible.

The Two Stages Of Gum Disease
1
The first stage of gum disease is when the area around the gums becomes red and swollen. This is known as gingivitis and can normally be treated and cured with a good daily oral hygiene routine.
2
The second stage occurs when the bone supporting the teeth is lost and the teeth become loose until they eventually have to be removed.
The Benefits of Having Dentures
If you have a large space caused by missing or lost teeth, a set of custom made dentures from Camlough Dental can improve your smile and give you a younger looking appearance by supporting sagging facial muscles and making it easier to eat and speak.
Thought About Dental Implants?
Full & Partial Dentures
There are two major types of dentures. The first is a full denture made of a removable acrylic base (the plate) and a set of natural looking acrylic teeth which fit snugly over the gums. The second type is called a partial denture and it is attached to the teeth on either side of a gap. These are used when only one or a few teeth are missing. There are also options of stronger, metal based dentures.
Another option is to have a dental implant to replace one, a few, or all of your teeth. You can find out more about dental implants here.

The Process
What to Expect When Getting Dentures
As you can imagine, dentures are not a ‘one size fits all’ treatment.
At Camlough Dental we will carefully assess your current oral health, the number of missing teeth and the complexity of the fitting to make sure your dentures fit properly and look amazing. Some of your existing teeth may also need to be extracted or you may need treatment to get your gums into good health before commencing any treatment.
Once it’s been decided that dentures are right for you, we will take an impression of your mouth and make very precise measurements to ensure a comfortable and natural fit. We will then use these impressions to create your custom made dentures
When your dentures are ready, we will have you come in to test the fit and make any necessary adjustments. We’ll also give you detailed instructions on how to care for dentures and your overall oral health.
We understand that getting dentures can feel like a big decision but they can make a significant improvement to your quality of life.
If you have any questions about dentures or are wondering if they are a good option for you, speak to one of our team and we’ll happily answer all your questions.

Aftercare for Your New Dentures
Your new dentures will require proper care to keep them looking their best.
Here are a few tips to follow:
- Remove and rinse your dentures after eating.
- Handle with care. Be sure not to bend or damage when cleaning.
- Use a soft-bristled toothbrush on natural teeth and gauze or a soft toothbrush to clean your tongue, cheeks and roof of your mouth (palate) after removing your dentures.
- Brush your dentures every day.
- Soak your dentures in water or a mild soaking solution overnight.
- Rinse them thoroughly before putting them back in your mouth, especially if using a denture-soaking solution.
- Schedule regular dental checkups.
- See your dentist if you have any irritation, sores or infections that might be caused by loose-fitting dentures.
FAQs
Can I eat normally with dentures?
Yes, but there is usually a short period of adjustment and you will have to be mindful of sticky or hard foods. It’s also a good idea to use a small amount of denture adhesive to stabilise your new dentures until you get used to them. But overall, and in time, you shouldn’t have much bother at all.
Does it hurt to get dentures?
As always, we do our very best to eliminate any pain and reduce any anxiety you may be feeling. Areas, where we may have performed new extractions before fitting your new dentures, may be tender or uncomfortable for a while, sometimes as long as two weeks. However, as your mouth gets used to your dentures they should start to feel more natural and secure.
Can I sleep with my dentures in?
We strongly suggest that you do NOT sleep with your dentures in place nor should you ever wear them for 24 hours straight without performing proper oral hygiene. Your gums and bones need a chance every day to ‘breathe’ and relax, which is why we encourage you to take them out when you’re getting ready for bed, clean them properly and store them safely overnight.
