Lifelong Care for Every Age
At Camlough Dental, we believe everyone deserves a brilliant smile- no matter what their age. And the sooner they start the more likely they are to create healthy habits that can prevent expensive treatments later in life.
But for young children, even the thought of visiting the dentist can be strange and scary. To help ease any apprehension, we’ll help them relax by clearly explaining exactly what they can expect- in terms and language they will easily understand, and follow with a gentle assessment.
We’ll take the time to answer all their questions and teach them basic dental care in a fun and interesting way and show them how good oral hygiene and healthy eating habits are nothing to be afraid of!

The Benefits of Children’s Dentistry
By teaching your child the importance of good oral hygiene they can help guarantee a lifetime of bright and brilliant smiles and give them the tools to fight back against gum disease, tooth loss and even diabetes, respiratory problems and heart disease.
The Process
Starting Early for a Lifetime of Healthy Smiles
Because good habits start early, at Camlough Dental we feel it’s best to schedule your child’s first dental appointment as soon as their first teeth start to show. This shows your child that visiting the dentist is a normal part of life.
During this visit our dental team can spot any potential issues as changes can happen very quickly in baby teeth.
If your child is a bit older, we’ll take the time to show them the best way to brush their teeth and ensure each tooth is properly cleaned. We’ll also evaluate their overall oral health and chat with you about any fluoride and/or tooth care products they may need, and how their diet can affect their teeth.
Together we can help your child achieve a lifetime of healthy and happy smiles!

FAQs
What kind of topics will you discuss with my child?
There are several topics we will discuss with your child during their appointment, including:
Tooth Brushing- We’ll show them the best way to brush their teeth to fight cavities and prevent gum disease.
A Healthy Diet- We’ll discuss how sugary snacks and drinks can damage their teeth and discuss healthier alternatives.
Prevention- As the saying goes, “Prevention is better than cure” and it holds especially true for children’s dental health. We’ll explain how protecting their teeth can reduce the amount of treatments they will need during their lifetime.
Why do baby teeth need dental care if they’re going to fall out anyway?
Baby teeth help your child chew, speak and smile and also prepare their jaw for secondary teeth. If baby teeth fall out too soon it can lead to crooked and crowded permanent teeth. If oral hygiene is not adequate then baby teeth can suffer decay and cause a lot of pain, needing either a filling or extraction. Decayed tooth removal is the most common reason for kids to be admitted to hospital in the UK.
How often should my child visit Camlough Dental?
We believe children should visit their dentist twice a year for routine cleanings and checkups. Permanent teeth are the ones most likely to develop cavities, especially around the age of 6 when these teeth first appear, so this is a critical time for good oral health.
