Put the Sparkle Back In Your Smile

Having your teeth whitened, whether at home or by a Camlough Dental professional, is one of the easiest and most effective ways to achieve a radiant smile that can really boost your confidence.

Although your teeth, and especially with smoking, can slowly become discoloured over time by the foods you eat and beverages you drink there are other factors such as genetics, trauma, ageing and medication that can change the shade of your teeth. It can also be incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to match the colours of restorations like front fillings, veneers or crowns by using store bought kits.

We offer two teeth whitening systems to fight back against discolouration and restore and transform your smile quickly, effectively and safely.

Be Safe- Not Sorry

We know it can be tempting to try to whiten your teeth with an over-the-counter kit. However, it’s important to understand that though these kits seem convenient and relatively inexpensive, they are likely, at best, to remove only very surface-level stains. There is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to whitening teeth and there is a real risk of a store bought treatment having no effect at all, or even permanently damaging your teeth.

At Camlough Dental we use two time tested, incredibly effective, treatments that will give amazing results in a safe and realistic way.

The Benefits of a Brilliant Smile

A sparkling smile can have a surprising range of benefits that go beyond simple aesthetics.

It can really boost your confidence, create a more positive first impression and a more youthful look by brightening your face and reducing the appearance of wrinkles around your mouth.

Best of all, when you feel confident about your smile it can lead to a more positive outlook and overall well-being.

What’s not to like!

Two Ways to a Whiter and Brighter Smile

At Camlough Dental we offer two incredibly effective treatments to help you achieve a brighter and whiter smile.

Home Whitening System

The first is a simple and convenient home whitening system where we create custom made trays that fit comfortably over your teeth. This is a more gradual whitening system and you should see amazing results in as little as two weeks.

Zoom! Whitening System

Our second system is a practice based treatment using a hydrogen peroxide gel and an intense LED light to whiten your teeth in as little as one hour.

Speak to a Camlough team member and they’ll help you decide which treatment is best for you.

Teeth Whitening Made Easy

Amazing Results in the Comfort of Your Home

Our home whitening treatment gives fantastic results gradually and safely over the course of a few weeks. We do this by using a low concentration of whitening agent to give longer lasting results without harming the delicate soft tissue in your mouth.

After your initial assessment, we will create custom-made soft plastic trays that you fill with the whitening gel, which you then place over your teeth each night for about 1 – 2 weeks. After this time we’ll speak with you and decide together if you need further treatment.

If used properly, your teeth can get many shades whiter, but keep in mind results can vary due to factors such as tooth density, porosity and your lifestyle.

Periodic top ups are required after undergoing any tooth whitening procedure.  Top up gels can be purchased after tooth whitening trays have been checked to ensure they are still a good fit.

Get Even Faster Results with Zoom!

If you want whiter teeth in a flash, we offer the Zoom tooth whitening system to deliver brilliant results in about an hour. This is achieved by using a combination of a hydrogen peroxide based whitening gel and a special LED light for fast and dramatic results.

If you choose this treatment you will first have a consultation with your dentist to discuss your goals, suitability for the system and any potential concerns. Next, your teeth will be thoroughly cleaned to remove any plaque or debris and a protective barrier is applied to your gums to minimise any irritation from the gel.

Finally, the light is placed near your mouth to activate the gel. Your dentist will monitor your progress and adjust the treatment until you get the results you want.

You will also have the same custom made plastic trays provided which you normally receive with the home kit.

Aftercare

Maintaining Your Results

Every whitening system will require you to occasionally top up the colour at home.  This is done by using the custom made trays, and may only be necessary every few months.  Additional gel for top ups is available at the surgery.

Once you’ve achieved your desired level of whiteness, you will need to follow a proper oral hygiene routine which includes:

  • Taking care with hot food and drinks as your teeth may be more sensitive during treatment and for a few weeks after your treatment
  • Stop smoking as it can excessively stain your teeth
  • Treating any sensitivity with Sensodyne or similar toothpastes
  • Avoiding or reducing your intake of staining drinks such as tea, coffee, red wine and dark fruit juices
  • Reducing intake of soft drinks and sports drinks as they tend to be highly acidic and full of artificial colour that can restain your teeth.

Other general tips:

  • If you do consume any staining foods or drinks, remember to rinse your mouth thoroughly with water as soon as you can
  • Brush twice a day and use interdental brushes or floss once a day to remove any staining food particles.

FAQs

Will whitening my teeth damage them in any way?

No. Both of the treatments we use at Camlough Dental are incredibly safe. As long as your teeth are healthy and free from decay or any other underlying problems your teeth will be perfectly fine. Even with the more intense Zoom procedure we can adjust the level of whitening chemicals to protect your teeth against sensitivity during the treatment.

Will whitening my teeth hurt?

Even with sensitive teeth you shouldn’t feel any pain or discomfort from the tooth whitening process. However, if your teeth are naturally sensitive we can provide a desensitising gel that you can use for a few weeks prior to having your teeth whitened. Your dentist will discuss all your options during your visit as part of the assessment process.

Can you whiten my crowns/veneer/fillings?

Many people ask this question and the answer is, unfortunately, no. There are no whitening systems that will change the colour of fillings / veneers / crowns. The bleaching agents used in whitening treatments react to natural tooth enamel and not synthetic materials. However, if you are unhappy with your current crowns or fillings, our dentist can discuss various options with you before any treatment starts.
